The Permeate Symposium offers an opportunity for intensive examination of themes explored in the Permeable Edge exhibition, positioning significant works from the University's collections by Graham Sutherland, William Scott, Peter Lanyon, Paul Nash, Terry Frost, Patrick Heron, Sandra Blow and others against contemporary painters including Biggs and Collings, Matthew Burrows, Varda Caivano and Phoebe Unwin.
The Permeate Symposium is the fourth in a series (Entrance to a Lane 2011, The Margins of the Lane 2012 and Liminal 2013) of dialogue/discussions centred on contemporary artists' to interrogate paintings at the edges of practice where boundaries blur and the porous nature of influence and response permeates the visual discourse of painting's contemporary position.
Presentations and a panel discussion are chaired by the curator of the show, artist Matthew Burrows, along with contributions from participating artists Matthew Collings (author and a half of Biggs and Collings) Sacha Craddock and Sarah Dwyer. This will lead to an interrogation of the exhibition at first hand and will be followed by drinks in the gallery.
